I.O. Systems - Conveying Smart Solutions
IO Systems, a subsidiary of Okamoto Systems
of Japan, is based in Athlone, Co Westmeath. It has been providing
"smart solutions" to materials handling problems since
1996. Originally set up to service key clients of the parent company
- in Ireland and the UK - it soon recognized the need for high quality
cost-effective solutions throughout the industry sectors. What makes
I.O. Systems different to many suppliers? Mainly its ethos of listening
carefully to each client's needs and then offering solutions that
fit perfectly - even if that means supplying equipment not normally
offered by the company. It is not about selling a preferred solution
to a client; rather, it is about providing the right solution for
Philosophy And Practice
This philosophy and practice has made I.O. Systems one of the largest
players in the market, employing over 80 people here in Ireland
and with offices in the UK and Holland. In order to deliver these
solutions, I.O. Systems has invested heavily in people and infrastructure
designed to deliver. The company boasts both a dedicated presales
engineering group and a projects engineering group, allowing the
business to focus on new business concepts without ever affecting
work in progress. The company is in control of all deliverables
including control systems through its own control systems and software
Part of the company's strength is its manufacturing facility in
Athlone, which currently stands at 25,000 sq ft. This enables the
company to provide short lead times for many of the products within
its portfolio. Coupled with its direct links to Japan and a constant
stream of new and innovative products, this puts the company in
a unique position in Ireland. Until now I.O. Systems has been one
of Ireland's best-kept secrets, having done little advertising or
marketing but have constantly grown through word of mouth and recommendation.
It has now put in place strategies to grow the company further,
having satisfied itself that it is capable of making the next step
in becoming Ireland's leading supplier.
The company has three main divisions:
Materials handling equipment
- Telescopic conveyors
- Belt curves
- Line changers
- Metal detectors
- Check weighers
- High-speed label applicators.
It can provide equipment constructed of mild
steel, stainless steel or aluminum.
I.O. Systems provides complete factory equipment maintenance services,
ad hoc maintenance services (including 24/7 call-out) and programmed
maintenance services. The company currently furnishes all of An
Post's maintenance nationwide.
Warehousing And Logistic
Through its strategic partnerships I.O. provides storage and retrieval
systems, distribution and logistic solutions (including high bay
picking) and high-speed sortation systems.
Sanki Conveyor Range
The company manufactures the Sanki range
of belt conveyors and line changers here in Ireland - this includes
the revolutionary Fric Touch range (FT Conveyors). This patented
design provides many unique features and a maintenancefree conveyor
with a belt life of up to three times that of conventionally driven
belt conveyors. One of the many advantages is the fact that when
belts eventually wear out, they can be changed in minutes. The unique
feature of this conveyor system is the friction drive on the outside
of the belt as opposed to a driven roller. This virtually eliminates
wear and tracking problems, as there is no tensioning in the belt.
I.O. Systems also manufactures its own range of stainless-steel
belt and plastic chain conveyors suitable for the most onerous and
sanitary applications. The company has strategic partnerships with
some of the world's leading equipment manufacturers. This enables
it to provide:
- Airport conveyor systems (for baggage and cargo
- Flexible chain conveyors
- Pallet conveyors
- High-speed sorters
- High bay storage and retrieval systems
- Telescopic boom loaders
- Elevators and lifts.
Through its partnership with Moving AB
of Sweden, I.O. Systems has a flexible chain conveyor system (FlexiMove).
This system is proving to be very competitive against all alternative
systems - it provides total flexibility and future proofing at exceptionally
competitive prices. This conveyor system is used extensively in
food, pharmaceutical, healthcare, electronics and bottling applications.
I.O. Systems will be at the Pakex exhibition
at the RDS on September 8th and 9th at stand D1 (just in front of
the main entrance). It will be exhibiting a range of equipment and
launching three new exciting products.
